Having spent many an afternoon at the Marketplace looking for that little something special for my wife, I know all too well what a wonderful collection of shops the Marketplace offers. More importantly, I have met many of the shop owners over the years and know that they’re the ones who make the place really special. If my shopping experience is any reflection of what the celebration will be like, we are in for a treat on the 14th. I will be there with my camera, and I hope to see you there as well! The Marketplace’s regular hours are: Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can visit the Marketplace at www.millfalls.com/marketplace
Rachael, her husband, John Cusimano, and their dog, Isaboo, stayed at The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls Thursday, July 23. Rachael and her production crew were in town filming a segment for her upcoming show “Rachael’s Vacation” soon to be aired on the Food Network. Highlighted for the show were their accommodations at Church Landing and Rachael’s dining experience at The Common Man’s CAMP restaurant. Chef Allen Zick will also be featured on the show as he prepares signature Camp dishes.
Rachael Domenica Ray is a television personality and author. She hosts the syndicated talk/lifestyle program “Rachael Ray”, as well as two Food Network series: “30 Minute Meals” and “Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels.” Ray has also written a series of cookbooks based on the 30 Minute Meals concept, and launched a magazine, “Every Day with Rachael Ray,” in 2006.
It is expected that Rachael’s visit to Church Landing and The Camp will air sometime in early 2010. We will be sure to let you you know as soon as we do!
If you’re looking for a place to stay for you and your family that offers a somewhat different experience than one of the Inns’ more traditional hotel rooms, but would still like all the great services and amenities provided by the Inns, look no further. The Inns are now offering a quaint little cottage for just that purpose. It’s right across the street from Lake Winnipesaukee, only a stone’s throw away from Church Landing, and a short walk to downtown Meredith.
Although I have not personally spent a night in the cottage, I can certainly imagine myself doing so. From every room in the cottage, one can look out onto a spectacular view of Lake Winnipesaukee. The large windows also allow for copious light to brighten up your day!
Occupying two floors with over 1000 square feet of living space, there are three bedrooms – two with queen beds and one with bunk beds for the kids – and two full baths. There is a spacious living room with a large fireplace to warm your nights, and a well-equipped full kitchen. As with any guest room in the hotel, the cottage is tied into all the Inns’ services, including phone, complimentary WIFI, continental breakfast, pool, beach, fitness center, and much more.
Try something new at The Inns and Spa at Mill Falls. The rates start at $439 per night for up to 4 people, with $20.00 per additional person during Spirited Season, and just $389 per night during Serenity Season. A ten percent discount is offered for stays of over five nights, as well as a twenty percent discount for seven nights or more. Call the Inns for more information: (603) 279-7006.

36 Annual Classic Boat Show
July 25th, Meredith Public Docks
The 36th annual Antique & Classic Boat Show at the Meredith public docks is a huge gathering of beautiful antique and classic wooden boats, with large crowds and over 80 vintage wooden boats on display all day in a judged competition. This is quite a sight to behold, and for a special treat get to the docks early on Saturday morning to watch and listen as the vintage boats arrive under their own power. There will also be a large static display of vintage race boats. The sights and sounds are magnificent, and to get an idea of the magnitude of this gathering of wooden boats, please take a moment to view our photo album from last year’s ACBS Meredith Boat Show.
This year’s 36th Annual Boat Show will be very special, featuring a very large showing of Gar Wood antique and classic boats, including an expanded display area of Gar Wood vintage race boats. Tony Mollica, author of Gar Wood Boats: Classics of a Golden Era, will also be our special guest at the Awards Dinner on Saturday night, and will give a talk on Gar Wood and his very special boats. He will also be available at the Boat Show to autograph copies of his several books. If you have one, bring it along. If you wish to buy one of his books, copies will be available for purchase.
For participants, don’t miss our Friday afternoon Judging Clinic and Friday evening reception, and plan on arriving early for our Boat Show on Saturday morning, as we are expecting another large turnout of antique and classic boats. As usual, the weather forecast for our 36th Annual Boat Show in Meredith will be sunny and hot, as we fill the Meredith public docks with our beautiful vintage boats.
The show is presented by the New England Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, a very active local group of over 300 members. Our boat show registration form is printed in our Cutwater publication, and a special registration mailing to all chapter members will soon be mailed. NH Humane Society receives donation from pet friendly guestroom fees
Meredith, NH: It has been one year since The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls went pet friendly and opened up four of their guestrooms to cater to the ever growing population of travelers who prefer to bring their pets on vacation rather than leave them behind. The Inns charge $25 per pet, per night to cover a portion of the additional cleaning costs and amenities that are provided, such as pet beds, blankets, food dishes and treats for each pet. More importantly than recouping some of the costs the Inns wanted to give back some of the proceeds to the animal loving community of which they have always been passionate supporters of, the NH Humane Society. Ten dollars of each fee is set aside as a donation to NHHS. To date the Inns have generated $2,330 in monies that go directly to the shelter to aid in their ongoing efforts.
Amy Porter-Coffaro, Marketing and Web Specialist for NHHS stated, “The animals at the New Hampshire Humane Society extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to the staff and administration from The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls for their generous donation, which stems from their newly offered “Pet Friendly Rooms”. This is an exciting addition to your already attractive facility. It is comforting to know that Fido and FeFe can now travel in comfort with their beloved owners and not be left behind. Congratulations!”
Guests and pets alike are well cared for at Mill Falls. The Cascade Spa at Church Landing recently teamed up with DeAnne M. Racz a certified Small Animal & Equine Massage Practitioner to provide canine and feline massage services. Martha Zyla, Cascade Spa Director noted “We are thrilled to add DeAnne’s talents and services to our menu. It’s a pleasure to treat the pets of our guests”.
The Inns and Spa at Mill Falls are located in the historic village of Meredith, New Hampshire on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. The four charming inns, comprised of the Inn at Mill Falls, Bay Point, the Chase House and Church Landing at Mill Falls, offer 156 guest rooms, 18 function rooms, seven restaurants, 15 shops and galleries, the world-class Cascade Spa, boat docks, 3,000 feet of public walkway along the water front and other unique amenities. For more information, call (603) 279-7006 or visit www.millfalls.com.
Ekal is a new service being offered in the Meredith area for the first time in the 2009 boating season. Scott Crowder of Bear Island, Meredith NH, is the founder and owner of the company. Scott has over 15 years of boating experience on Lake Winnipesaukee and is a licensed commercial captain. When asked where the name comes from, he informed me that Ekal is Lake spelled backwards. “I was looking for something different to name my business,” says Scott.
Whether you’re looking for a tour of the lake or an action-packed day of water sports, including tubing, water skiing or wake boarding, Ekal will do it all. Scott operates a world class performance ski boat, Tige RZ4, that is capable of seating 17 people, although Scott prefers to take groups no larger than 8 to 10 people at a time.
No matter what the activity is or how many people will be going along, the cost starts at $150.00 per hour and trips can be anywhere from one hour to several depending on your interests. The hourly cost goes down as the number of hours go up. Often you can schedule your trip on the same day, but Scott recommends making your reservations in advance to ensure availability. You can learn more about Ekal at their website: www.ekalexcursions.com or by calling 603-493-8517.
Take advantage of “Water Sports Wednesday” and get all that Ekal has to offer for a 15% discount, or take advantage of Scott’s unique Sunset and Fireworks Tours held whenever Weirs has a fireworks show.
“Ekal is passionate about one thing and one thing only – the Lake. The individuals who live a lifestyle around lakes know what we’re talking about. Countless hours spent out on the water, livin’ and laughin’ with friends and family until the sun sets and the campfire is lit. We live a lifestyle that many only dream of and we understand this – which makes us appreciate it even more. Join us and Live Our Lifestyle!”
If you’re staying with us at one of our four inns or planning a visit to the Meredith area, nothing could do more to enhance your experience than getting out on Lake Winnipesaukee. And an excellent way to do that is by renting a power boat or jet ski that will allow you to explore the hundreds of miles of shoreline and the many towns around our beautiful lake. Located just a stone’s throw from Church Landing is Meredith Marina, a full service Marina offering boat and jet ski rentals for as low as $200.00 (half day rental).
