The Autumn Craft Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, October 2nd and 3rd, from 10am to 5pm at The Mill Falls Marketplace, where more than 75 craftspeople will display and sell their locally made pieces.  The juried show includes jewelry, woodcrafts, original paintings, pottery, fabric arts, photography, metal sculpture, stained glass, calligraphy, maple products, preserves, kettle corn, and much more!  There will also be gourmet food sampling, craft demonstrations, and live musical entertainment each day.  Admission and parking are free, and pets are welcome.

On Sunday, head across the street to Hesky Park for the ChowderFest.  This favorite annual event, organized by 98.3 WLNH, features local eateries competing for the “Chowder Bowl” and title of “Best Chowder in the Lakes Region.”  This year’s participating restaurants include T-Bones and Cactus Jack’sThe Weirs Beach Lobster Pound, Steele Hill Resort’s Hill Top Dining Room, Christmas Island Steakhouse, Lakeside Restaurant, and our own Lakehouse Grille at Church Landing.  Just $5 gets you a spoon, a sampling of some of the tastiest chowders in the area, and a ballot to vote for your favorite!  The ChowderFest takes place on Sunday, October 3rd, from noon to 3pm, and benefits the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, a nonprofit organization founded in 1979 to conserve the natural heritage of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region.

The weather this weekend should be sunny and crisp – perfect for fair browsing and chowder tasting!  A trip to Meredith will be well worth it!

Audience members enjoy strolling the grounds before a performance at the proposed main stage theatre in Meredith

The Winnipesaukee Playhouse, founded in 2004 by siblings Lesley Pankhurst and Bryan Halperin along with their spouses, has followed a vision of bringing quality entertainment and arts education to The Lakes Region, and has quickly become a cultural destination in New Hampshire.  In fact, the Playhouse has been so successful it has outgrown its current location in Weirs Beach and is setting its sights on a new state-of-the-art venue in Meredith, NH.

Since its very first show, The “Winni” Playhouse has garnered community support and critical acclaim for its award-winning productions and educational programs, and for providing year-round opportunities for locals and visitors alike.  The current intimate Off-Broadway style theatre, which seats 84, is no longer able to meet the increasing demand for tickets.

In response, the Playhouse is planning to develop a theatre campus at the former Annalee Doll factory on Reservoir Road in Meredith.  The completed campus will have increased seating capacity in the main theatre, as well as expanded classroom space, administrative offices, lobby, concession, and bathroom facilities.  The plan also includes an outdoor performance space, eating area, and nature trails. Pet-Friendly Rooms at The Inns—Helping Many Animals In Need

For over two years, The Inns and Spa at Mill Falls have been pet-friendly, offering rooms at two of their Inns to guests who prefer to travel with their pets rather than leave them behind on vacations.  But it’s not only guests and their pets who benefit from this service—animals at The New Hampshire Humane Society do, too!paw prints

Pet-Friendly accommodations at Church Landing and the Inn at Mill Falls are available for an additional $25 fee per pet, which covers a portion of the additional cleaning costs and amenities such as pet beds, blankets, food dishes, and treats.  The Inns then set aside $10 of this fee for the NHHS in appreciation for all the good work they do, and so far have donated over $4,000 to this worthy cause!

The Inns also offer pet sitting services to allow guests some time to go out to dinner or shopping, while knowing that their loved ones are safe and happy!  On site are special pet walking and play areas, and there are lots of open spaces and several doggie waste stations throughout Meredith.

When planning your next trip to Lake Winnipesaukee, don’t worry about what to do with your pets… bring them along—Meredith is a pet-friendly town!
