Summer Fun in Meredith All Weekend!

If someone could only choose one weekend to be in the Lakes Region, this one just might be the best.  There are so many activities and events happening, at first glance it seems like it could be difficult to fit it all in, but everything is actually perfectly aligned so that visitors to Meredith can take in a variety of fun activities that provide the quintessential summer experience on Lake Winnipesaukee!

Come and dance the night away at Meredith’s annual Street Dance and Family Fun Night on Friday, July 29th.  The evening starts with make-your-own sundaes, games, and activities at 5:30 pm in Hesky Park, followed by live music and dancing on Main Street with rock and roll classics performed by City Limits.  This great community event is perfect summer fun for all ages—bring the whole family!  If it rains, the party will be rescheduled for Saturday, July 30th.

Also on Friday, July 29th, The New Hampshire Lakes Association is hosting their fourth annual LakeFest at Church Landing from 5 – 8pm.  The non-profit organization works to ensure the quality of NH lakes for generations to come, with a focus on issues such as shore and watershed protection, water quality improvement, and fisheries and wildlife preservation.  The annual fundraising evening will feature live comedy from Rob Steen and Robbie Printz, who have both been seen on seen on Letterman, MTV, and Comedy Central.  Guests will also enjoy a silent auction with dozens of local and handcrafted items, as well as gourmet food and wine.  Come support a great cause!  Tickets are $50 for one, $75 for two, and can be purchased by visiting or by calling 226-0299.

Of course, just like all Fridays this summer, there will be music in the Mill Falls Marketplace this week, as well.  Stroll through the many quaint shops of the Marketplace while enjoying an evening serenade in the courtyard from 5:30 – 8:30 pm.  This week’s featured musical talent is Woodchuck’s Revenge.

On Saturday, July 30th, don’t miss the 38th Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Antique & Classic Boat Show.  This gathering is quite a sight to behold, with all the beautiful vintage, antique, and classic wooden boats rolling in under their own power to the Meredith town docks on Saturday morning.  Over 80 boats are expected to be on display to participate in the juried competition at the docks in the afternoon.  In Hesky Park, there will be a large display of non-judged vintage boats on trailers, along with the new Field of Dreams sale of antique and classic boats.  Many of the boats will still be in town on Sunday, as well.

So, if you don’t have any plans for this weekend (or even if you do), swing by Meredith for a day or two.  With so much going on, there’s something for everyone to enjoy—it’ll be well worth the trip!

NH’s Annual Dream Vacation Photo Contest Has a New Twist This Year

The 3rd annual New Hampshire Dream Vacation Photo Contest is well under way, with dozens of visitors and residents of the state submitting their entries daily.  This year, however, contestants have the opportunity to enter videos as well as photos, for another chance to win the NH vacation of their dreams!

The contest, hosted by the New Hampshire Division of Travel and Tourism Development (DTTD), runs through Labor Day and features an online photo and video contest with two winners, one for each division.  The winner of the photo contest receives a custom-designed New Hampshire Dream Vacation worth $2,500, and the winning videographer gets a $1,000 custom NH vacation.  Three additional lucky contestants can each win $500 if their photo or video wins the popular vote.  Irving Oil will also offer gas gift cards in the amount of $50 that will be awarded weekly to randomly selected participants.

“We encourage every NH resident and visitor to explore and enjoy the state, take photos and videos with the ‘I Love it Here’ signs along the way, and upload them to our site,” says Lori Harnois, Director of the New Hampshire DTTD.  “We’re excited to have a video component this year, allowing contestants the chance to highlight a New Hampshire experience, whether it’s jumping in a lake, hiking a mountain trail or eating a favorite meal at a local restaurant.  There is so much to enjoy while vacationing in our beautiful state and now you can show us how much you love it here!”

To play, go to and download the “I Love it Here” sign.  Print out the sign and bring it with you as you visit your favorite places in New Hampshire, including The Inns and Spa at Mill Falls.  At these scenic spots, take photos and/or 15-second videos of yourself or a travelling companion with the “I Love it Here” sign, making sure there’s an identifier in the photo, such as a location sign or easily-recognizable building.  Upload one to five of these photos or videos to the contest website, where participants can vote on their favorites.  Friends and family members can vote too!  Many entries can also be seen on the Visit NH Facebook page.

Contest postcards with the “I Love it Here” signs are available at properties throughout the state, including all Welcome Information Centers.  These postcards now feature a QR Code on the back, which can be scanned by smart phones, allowing users to upload photos and video to the contest website directly from their iPhone, Android, Blackberry, or other mobile device.

“Once again this summer, we expect residents will want to vacation right here in New Hampshire, and will spend time exploring the mountains, lakes, and seacoast,” says Harnois.  “Snap some photos, shoot some video, have fun, and challenge yourself to find the best spot in NH!”

Family Day at Wright Museum in Wolfeboro

Looking for a fun and unique way to spend a Sunday in July?  One of New Hampshire’s most innovative history museums will be hosting a special day of activities, food, and gallery tours, and folks of all ages will enjoy the diverse happenings this event has to offer.

On Sunday, July 10th, the Wright Museum in Wolfeboro, NH will hold its 14th Annual Family Day from 11am – 3pm.  The World War II museum will become home to uniformed re-enactments, special demonstrations, face painting and other children’s activities, and a barbeque lunch.  However, the highlight of the day will be the rare opportunity for guests to ride in one of the museum’s vintage WWII vehicles around downtown Wolfeboro, which only happens twice a year.  Visitors will also have a chance to meet “Rosie the Riveter” while learning about the contributions of women and others on the home front.

According to the organization’s website, The Wright Museum’s mission is to “preserve and share the stories of America’s Greatest Generation for the benefit of generations to come. To fulfill this mission, the Wright Museum collects, cares for, and exhibits artifacts illustrating the heroic efforts of ordinary people living during extraordinary times.”  The founder of the museum, David Wright, believes that it is “imperative to tell the whole story of Americans’ contribution to the war effort.”

The Wright Museum consists of a Home Front gallery and theater, a two-story Visitor’s Center, and the museum’s military wing.  A Time Tunnel links the Home Front gallery to the military exhibits, with special displays of artifacts from the years 1939 – 1945.  The museum’s military exhibition boasts a large collection of fully operational vintage military vehicles, including a 42-ton Pershing tank.  Twice a year, including Family Day, this collection is available for rides for the general public.  This Sunday visitors will also have the opportunity to view WWII era memorabilia from private collections, along with other special activities.

Take the whole family to Wolfeboro this Sunday, and create new memories from the pages of history as they come to life at The Wright Museum!
