In recent years, corn mazes have become a new fall tradition for families throughout New England, with the designs and labyrinths becoming more complex every year. Cornfields are carved up at the end of summer to make intricate aerial views, and in some cases, the paths are so secret the owners don’t release aerial photos until the season is over. Lakes Region Wineries to Hold Third Annual Barrel Tasting Weekend

Lakes Region Barrel Tasting-2013-smCelebrate the harvest season with a fun weekend of tasting unique and wonderful New Hampshire wines, meads, and ciders! In the tradition of many California vineyards, seven wineries in the Lakes Region have pulled together and are planning to open house for two days of touring and tasting for the third annual Barrel Tasting Weekend.

The 2013 Lakes Region Barrel Tasting Weekend will take place on October 5th and 6th, from 11 am to 5 pm. The seven participating wineries this year are: Coffin Cellars, Stone Gate Vineyard, Gilmanton Winery, Sap House Meadery, Haunting Whisper Vineyards, Newfound Lake Vineyards, and Hermit Woods Winery.

After the success of last year’s Barrel Tasting Weekend, when nearly 500 people from throughout New England toured the participating wineries, the organizers are anticipating an even bigger and better event this year. “Even with heavy rain almost the entire weekend last year, we still had an incredible turnout and everyone had a great time,” says Bob Manley of Hermit Woods Winery, the coordinator of the event. “Should the weather cooperate, we would expect an even greater turnout this year.” Continue reading

The Winnipesaukee Playhouse was founded in 2004, becoming so successful that it soon outgrew its intimate Weirs Beach theatre of 84 seats. With sights set on a bigger venue, the Playhouse assumed ownership of the former Annalee Doll Complex in Meredith in 2008, and put into action a plan to renovate the complex into a “Tanglewood type of setting” for their theatre and workshops. The 11-acre campus now boasts a state-of-the-art main stage theatre, nature trails, an outdoor amphitheater, picnic tables, and plenty of parking. Continue reading
