As the holiday season gets underway in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, many folks are embracing thoughts of gatherings, traditions, family, and good cheer. These four elements are all coming together at The Arts Collaborative Gallery and Teaching Studio in Meredith, where the doors will be open to the public on three occasions in December to celebrate the spirit and creativity of the season. Co-owners David and Heidi Little welcome everyone to gather at The Arts Collaborative with family to participate in these special events that are sure to become a holiday tradition.
The Arts Collaborative’s annual Holiday Open House will take place this weekend, Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th. David Little, an artist-blacksmith (Winnipesaukee Forge, www.winnipesaukeeforge.com) and on-site artist Steve Hayden (Steven Hayden Arts, www.haydenarts.com) will be on hand displaying their latest wrought iron, wood, and copper furnishings and mixed media sculpture. To kick off the holiday season in the Lakes Region, the Altrusa Club of Meredith will be hosting their 18th Annual Festival of Trees during the first full weekend of December. This much anticipated event will be hosted by the Hale family at the Waukewan Golf Club in Center Harbor, NH, and will highlight beautifully decorated Christmas trees, fine products made by local artisans, traditional cookies and cider, and a special children’s event, all while benefitting local charities and community projects! Next weekend, the quaint lakeside village of Meredith will come to life with live music, delicious food, and beautiful works of creativity as Main Street and the Mill Falls Marketplace are transformed into an outdoor art gallery featuring the works of over 80 local painters, sculptors, jewelers, potters, photographers, and quilters.
The Lakes Region Fine Arts and Crafts Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 24th and 25th amongst the Meredith Village Shops and the Mill Falls Marketplace. This annual event, organized by the Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Meredith Village Savings Bank, is an outdoor, juried exhibition and sale of fine arts and fine crafts. Now in its 34th year, the festival has gained a solid reputation among New England artists and craftspeople, making it the largest quality arts and crafts event in the area. Visitors will be impressed with the wide variety of exhibits, including wildlife photography, metal and wood sculptures, stained glass, handmade jewelry, baskets, leather works, and abstract and traditional oil painting and watercolors. Follow the League of NH Craftsmen’s Live Free and Shop Fine Craft Gallery Trail from July 4th to July 14th, and not only will you have the opportunity to browse beautiful hand-crafted items—and even see how some of them are made—but you will also have the chance to win some fantastic prizes!
During the Live Free and Shop tour, all seven League of NH Craftsmen retail galleries will host fun and educational activities, including craft demonstrations, hands-on classes, special exhibits, and raffles. The best way to follow the Fine Craft Trail is with a Live Free and Shop Passport. Fun things to do during February vacation abound in the Lakes Region! After your kids have had some outdoor fun, bring them inside to warm up their creativity—there are some great children’s art programs lined up at The Arts Collaborative, where the resident artists invite you to “Come on over and get your Art on!”
The Arts Collaborative Teaching Studio in Meredith, NH is a place to really explore imagination and innovation. In addition to the regular schedule of classes, the studio has put together some special sessions for kids on break from school next week. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings, February 25 – 27 from 9:30am to noon, the “Crazy Creative Kids” program will take place. As winter sets in all around New England, we begin to turn our thoughts toward pursuing creative indoor endeavors, gathering with loved ones, and helping those less fortunate than ourselves. December is a time of great giving, within our families as well as our communities. In this spirit of grace, the art galleries of Meredith are once again opening their doors and their hearts for a special night of beautiful art, music, delicious food, and generous fundraising for their annual “Food for the Soul” Art Walk.
Next Thursday evening, December 13th, six galleries in Meredith will participate in the third annual Meredith Village Art Walk, themed “Food for the Soul,” to benefit the New Hampshire Humane Society, the largest area animal welfare agency. Last year’s Art Walk brought in many donations to the Meredith Emergency Food Pantry, and the event’s organizers are hoping their visitors are just as generous this year to help our animal friends. The event promises to be bigger and better than last year with the addition of several fine artisans and craftsmen, horse-drawn wagon rides, and live music. Continue reading
