A New Adventure Awaits at Gunstock Mountain this Winter

The Recoil Zip Span at Gunstock

Looking for something different and exciting to add to your winter activity list? No need to look any farther than the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. While the area has long been home to great skiing, ice-skating, and wilderness exploration, it now boasts something quite unique—the longest zip line tour in the continental United States—an amazing way to enjoy the outdoors year-round!

This past November, Gunstock Mountain Resort unveiled its new ZipTour Canopy Tour, adding to its expansive attractions, including the Aerial Treetop Adventure course that opened last spring. The ZipTour covers a 1.6-mile span descending the full vertical of the NH ski area, offering a different way to fly down the mountain, above the trails overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. There are 5 segments of lines, two of which are for training and practicing before the big adventure down the slope! Continue reading

Lakes Region Halloween Haunt is a Real Scare

For countless ages, folks have sat around campfires telling tales of horror and fright, often leaving listeners with chills that last long after the stories are finished.  Many are drawn to dark legends and rumors of strange occurrences, and as the living world transitions into another realm in autumn, October is the perfect time to remember the past—and things that once were or may have been.  At Gunstock Mountain, there is a place for brave souls to gather and mingle with mysterious tales come back to life.

Morbid Mountain is the name Gunstock Mountain takes on in October, when it celebrates its annual Halloween Screamfest.  Every weekend throughout the month, visitors find themselves meandering through different haunted zones, each with their own scary back-stories.  This year, Morbid Mountain features The Morgue, The Forest of Fear, and Blackout.

The Morgue is an outdoor maze built on the spot where, rumor has it, the infamous Mountain Morgue once stood.  The rural, hidden location was perfect for the dead to return to life and take control of the morgue.  Now, zombies linger in the maze.  Visitors beware.

In the Forest of Fear, unexplained things are happening.  This usually bucolic spot in the Gunstock Mountain Resort campground has had some strange reports of odd activity.  Uncanny sounds, missing campers, and torn tents have left the security team baffled.  Bears and raccoons have been ruled out.  What is going on there?  See if you can find your way through this eerie—and shadowy—place.

Scariest of all is Blackout, an indoor maze in the resort’s Lodge.  According to an old wives’ tale, a mysterious group once used the attic to perform weird experiments on people, preferring to use all kinds of strange electrical equipment.  Now as Halloween approaches, some inexplicable stuff has been happening in the lodge, causing power surges and blackouts.  Can guests here make it through without encountering a twisted spirit from the dark days?

This is the last weekend that Morbid Mountain will allow visitors past its gates.  For more information and to read the full legends, go to www.MorbidMountain.com, and be prepared to be scared!

New Adventures Await Visitors to the NH Lakes Region

This summer, visitors to the White Mountains and Lakes Region of New Hampshire will have more fun things to do thanks to Gunstock Mountain Resort.  The multifaceted resort is building an adventure ropes course and a Segway™ tour route that will add to the many activities already offered at their recreation area in Gilford, NH.

The Aerial Treetops Adventure course is nearing completion at the new Gunstock Mountain Resort Adventure Park.  It will consist 91 games that include 41 course challenges covering over 1000 feet, 22 ladders, and 12 zip lines totaling almost 1,400 feet in length.  “The ATA course will be the largest high ropes, zip line and adventure course in New England,” says Bill Quigley, Director of Marketing and Sales at Gunstock.  “While many are building fun things to stop traffic, ours is unique as it has been custom designed and built within the natural setting at Gunstock, taking advantage of beauty and topography of the 9 acres it covers.”

The Adventure Park will open on Friday, May 27th, just in time for Memorial Day weekend.  The demo course and the five levels of adult courses will be ready for the holiday.  The kids’ course is still under construction, and will be finished by mid-summer along with the zip line tours.  “We are all very excited about the work that has been done since March 29th,” says General Manager Greg Goddard.  “We still have work to complete the entire project by our target of early July, but the Aerial Treetop Adventure course is ready and better than we imagined.”

Also new at Gunstock is a Segway™ tour course, which utilizes the new Segway X2, an off-road version of their personal transportation machines.  Gunstock now has the only authorized Segway off-road tour experience in New England.  The course features some of the resort’s 50 miles of beautiful alpine and cross-country terrain, and guides will offer nature and historical tours of the area in this innovative new adventure.

Get ready for some new excitement this summer, and sign up for a Segway tour or visit the new Aerial Treetops Adventure course.  These adventures are sure to become your next family vacation tradition!  For more information or reservations, call 603-737-4388.
