Moulton Farm’s 2012 corn maze.

In recent years, corn mazes have become a new fall tradition for families throughout New England, with the designs and labyrinths becoming more complex every year. Cornfields are carved up at the end of summer to make intricate aerial views, and in some cases, the paths are so secret the owners don’t release aerial photos until the season is over. Here in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, a couple of popular farms have opened up their 2013 mazes, including mini mazes for little ones, and one is even offering nighttime corn maze adventures! Lakes Region Farms Celebrate the Growing Season with Opening Events

Beans & Greens Farmstand

Leaves are budding and flowers are blooming all around NH, and the time for planting summer vegetables is upon us!  Many local farms and farm stands are now opening to the public and offering early spring produce along with special events that will get everyone in the spirit for this year’s growing season and abundant harvests.

Saturday, April 28th is Opening Day at Beans & Greens Farmstand in Gilford, NH. Visitors will enjoy the farm’s focus on the early season gardening, and Beans & Greens will be offering a full selection of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, and hanging baskets displayed in several large greenhouses. As the weather warms and the danger of frost passes, a full selection of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs will soon be growing in the picturesque meadows surrounding the Farmstand. Next weekend, on Saturday, May 5th, the farm will present an introductory workshop on its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Attendees will learn about how the program works and, if interested, can sign up to participate. Many other fun events coming up at Beans & Greens are listed on the farm’s website here. “Cider Bellies” Donuts Return to Moulton Farm

Crisp, cool nights and warm, sunny days mean the beginning of autumn in New Hampshire, and with the change of seasons comes the bounty of the farm.  Ripening now is New England’s most famous fall harvest—apples—and that means fresh cider and pies are not far behind.  Folks in the Lakes Region of NH will now be able to enjoy a treat that embodies the taste of the apple harvest—“Cider Bellies” Donuts are available at Moulton Farm in Meredith!

Although they were only offered occasionally before, Cider Bellies will have a permanent residence at Moulton Farm starting Labor Day Weekend.  Come and try this local favorite indulgence!

A destination since the 1980s, Moulton Farm grows a variety of produce, including white and yellow corn, tomatoes, squash, peas, pumpkins, and strawberries.  In addition, the farm also grows herbs, flowers, and both potted and bedding plants in its large greenhouse, built in 1993.  The extensive farm stand market also includes a bakery and kitchen, which turns out country pies, breads, rolls, salad dressings, jams and preserves.  Also, new this fall, Moulton Farm has teamed up with Cider Bellies Doughnuts to bring fresh, homemade cider doughnuts to its patrons.  These famous tasty treats are made right in front of you on the Moulton Farm property.

In the fall, Moulton Farm also opens up its Corn Maze.  This traditional challenge delights people of all ages, with a different design each year.  This year’s maze is opening a little late because of the heavy rains of Hurricane Irene, but should be ready by Saturday, September 10th.  If planning a trip for the corn maze, just call ahead to make sure it’s open.

For more information or to register for one of Moulton Farms’ workshops or cooking demonstrations, visit their website or call the farm at 603-279-3915.  Enjoy the abundance of autumn!
